When you hear the words boot camp you probably think of
discipline, rigorous training, and hard work-and you’d be right. Boot camp is
getting serious about anything you take seriously. There’s no boot camp for
couch surfing. And there’s no boot camp for pew warming either.
Maxwell quotes 1 Peter 1:13-16 from the Message Bible, “So
roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the
gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip back into those old
grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any
better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a
way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness.
God said, ‘I am holy; you be holy’”.
The blood of Jesus has purchased a full-ride scholarship to heaven.
The tuition has been paid, we have free room and board in the Father’s house,
and our school uniform has been fitted and paid for. That’s what God could do,
and we couldn’t do that part; but what we can do we must. We have everything we
need to succeed, but we must maximize this amazing opportunity. Since grace is so amazing, we’ve got to do
something with it-not to earn salvation but in gratitude for it.
Maxwell quotes from 2 Peter; “Add to your faith
…goodness…knowledge, …(and) self-control.”
Maxwell reminds us these are not works of salvation but
works of faith.
